IRD is deploying INTEL-IRRIS sensor solutions at the Mai Savanh Lao farm in Laos to pilot advanced monitoring systems for sustainable agriculture and environmental protection. This collaboration, led by Christian Hartmann, builds on his long-standing research partnerships in Laos.
In this real-world deployment, INTEL-IRRIS tensiometer-based soil moisture sensors provide precise insights into water dynamics from surface to root zone, enabling optimized irrigation and reduced water consumption. Supporting the farm’s organic practices, soil temperature sensors are also used to enhance on-site compost production.
A key strength of the INTEL-IRRIS solution lies in its fully autonomous, edge-enabled architecture, allowing complete local deployment — even in remote areas — where data collection and processing are handled directly on a versatile IoT gateway.
